Overview

One of the essential points of interest of the Tierras del Ebro region is the Via Verda (Green Ways). Following the path of a disused railway line running from north to south, it will allow you to discover the landscape and the different villages on a bike. Discover the beautiful mountains of the region finishing at the mouth of the Ebro River.

The Via Verda (Green Way) runs along the old Zafan Valley railway line that united Aragon with the Mediterranean Sea and was in operation for 31 years. It was permanently closed on September, 17th, 1973. The first leg of our route starts in Horta the Sant Joan and finishes in Tortosa (44Km), where you will pass through impressive natural areas. You will stay the night in Tortosa in a 3 Star hotel. The following day, a shorter route (35Km) will take you to the mouth of the river Ebro, where you can admire the flora and fauna of the biggest river in Spain.

Wow. Right from the start It was evident that Alex loves what he does and places that passion into developing memorable experiences for his clients. He’s a wonderfully personable guide. His understanding of the culture and language may be betrayed by the delightful play of the Scottish undertones to his accent but I assure you the conversation will inform you of his authenticity.

We are a family of two adults and a teen (14) boy who selected the Ebro River, 2 day 1 night cycle tour. We were rewarded with a well described, casual ride demonstrating the incredible diversity the Spanish countryside offers. The tunnels were a surprise that left you upside down (if you forget to turn your light on) and anxiously anticipating the next turn. Keep an eye out for all the historic detours, you can easily get sidetracked. We would definitely recommend this tour.

Oh, and the plunge into the sea at one of the most tranquil and picturesque beaches in the Mediterranean, complete with beach bar, really added to the finale.

Alex was very friendly and easy to get along with, and had many interesting things to share about Catalan and Spain more broadly. He was accommodating and ensured everything was good about the cycling pace and the overnight stay. Would recommend, definitely a fun adventure.

Our host Alex was the best. He was always very friendly and helpful. We stayed one extra day in the Delta de l'Ebre to do some birdwatching and Alex picked us up where we asked him to. We kept constant contact via WhatsApp. We really enjoyed the first day, cycling along an old train line, with tunnels, nice old train stations and later on orange trees and smell of orange flowers.

We have enjoyed every minute of this 2 days trip, Via Verde. From Sitges it is a 2 hours drive in a comfortable van through beautiful scenery, especially the last part. Alex has proper bikes that fit all sizes. The first day we biked 99% down hill via the old railway trail, it seems unreal but it is true! Through tunnels, over bridges and where ever you look: splendid view. Packed lunch was nice. We spend the night in a nice 4 star hotel in Tortosa, a small town. Second day we biked through the Delta, through rice fields and again beautiful nature. Be sure you take along enough water, we found a lot of shops closed. Alex kept good track of us and kept in touch the whole trip. We finished with a swim on a stunning beach, again breath taking! We highly recommend this tour, will do it again!
